The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Push for improved waste water infrastructure to prevent contamination and erosion of the Hibiscus Coast.

    Support the implementation of Zero Waste Early Childhood Education Program to instil habits of reducing waste and adopting recycling.

    Push to work with Mana Whenua under the umbrella of Te Tiriti to embrace Mātauranga Māori for protecting the environment.

  • Protect the water of our beaches and bays by improving water infrastructure so that they remain safe for swimming and recreation.

    Create more natural and marine reserve spaces that protect our natural wildlife from pests, and allow fish populations to rejuvenate.

    Commit to more community recycling hubs that allow for waste minimisation and social responsibility.

  • Support community and volunteer groups to enhance and protect our local environment.

    Ensure our local beaches are clean and safe and remain a key tourism driver for our area.

    Support the enforcement of freedom camping regulations to ensure compliance and avoid negative impacts on our environment.

  • Encourage/incentivise households to install water tanks where possible to relieve pressure from town supply. This also improves quality.

    Stop being ideological and encourage practical and logical systems to work effectively to protect the environment and eliminate pests.

    Educate around waste to incentivise households to compost and introduce effective recycling methods, refunds for cans/glass.

  • Committed to removing chemical based weed management in the Hibiscus and Bays.

    Committed to supporting the community groups that manage our "grassroots" response to pests and weeds.

    Committed to encouraging and supporting community led zero waste initiatives.

  • Hold developers accountable and enforce sediment run off compliance.

    Protect public land for maintaining and growing green space.

    Support existing environmental groups such as Restore Hibiscus and Bays and Hibiscus Coast Zero Waste.
