The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Rapid and reliable public transport with more routes and frequency. Rapid bus routes to Orewa and Whangaparaoa from HBC bus station.

    Improve accessibility by connecting pedestrian and cycle ways.

    Prioritise solutions like Penlink to ease congestion. Public transport on Penlink from opening.

  • Deliver on key infrastructure to ensure congestion solutions.

    Hold Auckland Transport accountable to improve and ensure rapid and reliable public transport.

    Find ways to improve connectivity of our suburbs and business districts ie cycleways and walkways, particularly for Silverdale Industrial Zone.

  • Advocate for four-laning of Penlink.

    Advocate for more frequent, direct, and reliable bus connections from our homes and places of business.

    Advocate for more park and ride facilities which are already at capacity.

  • Push for improved public transport, cycleways, and car charging infrastructure to reduce reliance on driving gas guzzlers.

    Support the delivery of Penlink.

  • Whangaparaoa must have a public transport hub park and ride that will operate as soon as Penlink is finished.

    Revenue from rates must be spent in the community from whence it came to maintain roading and create safe access for walking and cycling.

    Reliable ferry services seven days a week to and from Gulf Harbour is non-negotiable for reducing road use and encouraging visitors to the area.

  • Build active transport solutions delivered without loss for private vehicle transport.

    Encourage AT to utilise frequent small zero emission buses to support small communities like Waiwera, Orewa Hills, Arkles Bay and Stillwater.

    Ensure Local Board continues to be heard on Penlink, one lane each way is not enough, lets have at least a dynamic T3 lane for buses and PSV.
