The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Committed to zero extension of the urban footprint in the green field areas.

    Encourage intensification of existing suburban areas and conversion of commercial to residential within 1km of existing transport hubs.

    Committed to prioritising investment in maintenance and upgrades to infrastructure that serves the areas we intensify.

  • Oppose our area being included in initiatives like the Medium Density Residential Standards until our infrastructure can handle it.

    Continue to support our area being impacted by qualifying matters preventing dense development until we are ready for it.

    Continue to support active development of land already consented for development encouraging housing affordability for our young people.

  • Assess project by project relative to the location. Development contribution fees go to the community to improve/maintain the infrastructure.

    Council should not be responsible for social housing. It is a central government issue that needs to be dealt to without today's ideology.

    Knowledge is required to honestly assess, inspect and pass any building so accountability is a must whether builders, inspectors or designers.

  • Push for better infrastructure so that environment and the water system is ready to support the increased density under the new zoning laws.

    Ensure that any large developments have community and Mana Whenua support.

  • Support affordable home solutions for first home buyers.

    Support well planned growth for our townships and suburbs with proper investment.

    Support community engagement in regards to council housing.

  • Establish a requirement for green spaces to be included in the development of suburbs and higher density communities.

    Identify key areas for high density development near public transport and business hubs.
