Kāpiti Coast District Council

Kāpiti Coast District At Large
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kāpiti Coast District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe the council needs to be involved in ensuring much improved healthcare access and ensuring a better balance between local and central government (local decision-making except where it is more sensible to make them nationally or regionally). I also want to see greater community empowerment.

About me

I am a long time Kāpiti resident in two different locations (Paekākāriki and Otaihanga). My long experience in the health system equips me well to handle complexity and the always challenging relationship between local and central government. I am a strong believer in participatory democracy based on community empowerment.

My priorities
  1. Improve healthcare access because of serious shortfalls and a more centralised health system.
  2. Protect local government authority against over-the-top centralisation based on desktop analysis.
  3. Empower communities through participatory democracy to improving council decision-making.
