Kāpiti Coast District Council

Paraparaumu Ward
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Three councillors will be elected from the Paraparaumu ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Sensible policy and spend on walking and cycleways! Maintain what we have before spending on new infrastructure.

    The airport is private land owned by developer. Council needs to work with the developer to get the best outcome for the community, not fight them.

    Fund critical infrastructure and not vanity projects like the Gateway! Spend wisely to ensure rates affordability as well as core function.

  • Advocate and help implement a network of safe storage/recharge stations for e-bikes and scooters along our cycle and pathway network.

    Lobby regional council and government for double tracking to Ōtaki and free rail travel at off-peak times to encourage mode shift mentality.

    Lobby for support of the "15-minute city" concept that puts people at the centre of urban transformation.
