Taradale Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Four councillors will be elected from the Taradale ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Establish more wetlands to create more habitats for biodiversity.

    Commit to native riparian planting along all streams, tributaries and river margins for the purpose of improving water quality and habitat.

    Develop a strategy for the enhancement of aquatic ecosystems within the Napier waterways, particularly in regard to enhanced shading.

  • Riparian planting of our streams and waterways to improve water quality.

    Reduce food waste going to landfill by encouraging home composting and potentially kerbside collection.

    Incentivise home water storage for use on gardens, lawns.

  • Work toward improved water quality in drains and Ahuriri Estuary.

    Encourage less waste to landfill by promoting recycling and home composting.

  • Support the establishment of the regional park as an option for water quality improvement for the Ahuriri estuary.

    Expand and develop the recycling opportunities for Taradale residents.

  • Analyse the origin and type of litter entering our waterways and ocean. Collaborate with Sustainable Coastlines litter monitoring programme.

    Work in tandem with community groups, iwi and hapū, on conservation projects – forest, wetland, dune and stream restoration and maintenance.

    Stop/reduce the use of single-use plastics. Collaborate with businesses that use alternatives, such as refillable containers.
