Taradale Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Four councillors will be elected from the Taradale ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Promote Taradale as the hub of cycling activity in the Hawkes Bay region. All trials can originate from the Hub of Taradale

    Develop the cycle pathways to provide safe and easy commutes to the Napier CBD

  • Encourage employment of youth, providing mentoring, a positive culture, and a career path for them, within council services and the region.

    Promote the circular economy and meaningful jobs. Collaborate with sustainable local businesses; non-profit organisations such as 3R Group.

    Adopt and implement a strategic framework for resilient local economic development (eg 'doughnut' economics) that includes job creation.

  • Promote and support more local tourism initiatives.

    Promote and support more local festivals and involve more local businesses with events such as Art Deco and Matariki.

    Ensuring that our infrastructure is up to a reasonable standard in order to keep up with growth.

  • Work with chambers of commerce, business associations, tourism and hospitality to grow direct employment and support sector opportunities.

    Develop programmes with communities, education and trades providers to encourage employment through the Mayoral Taskforce for Jobs.
