Taupō District Council
The Taupō District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Seven councillors will be elected from the Taupō ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I believe we can improve the way our council performs, we can provide a more approachable environment between the local community and council. Ratespayers deserve to be heard and to be given every opportunity to have their say in the planning of their own town. Proper communication leads to proper planning and relevant strategies. We need to do better for our town and together we can do better.
About me
I have lived in Taupō for the last thirteen years, I love my town and my local people, I worked for few local businesses and established my own local business (2014-2020). Currently I serve the community as a Corrections Officer. A councillor's job as I see it is to be available, to listen and to take people's ideas, aspirations, hopes and concerns to the meeting table not just to inform them of decisions already made.
My priorities
- Improve communications with our people to guarantee their full involvement in all future planning.
- Spend rates payers money wisely, reduce debt, and work with the community on what's a priority.
- Prioritise environment and provide suitable infrastructure plans for our fast growing town.
