The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change and resilience

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

    Plan with communities for consequences of climate change and a fair transition – so poor and working-class people don't bear all the costs.

    Support the further development of retention basins along the upper Heathcote to reduce flooding downstream.

  • Earthquake strengthening. Many homes have been neglected regarding earthquake damage. Ratepayers did not receive sufficient funds and advice.
