Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board

The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

    Animal control and dog licensing: Animal keepers need guidance so that their animals are well kept and fed and do not loiter on the street.

  • Maintain the pressure to move the Organics Processing Plant to a more appropriate location; and pursue a plan change to restrict wastedumps.

    Advocate for repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant that is resilient and sustainable, ensuring the voices of local residents are heard.

    Support upgrades to the stormwater system which enhance river water quality; and advocate for chlorine-free tap water.

  • Continue to demand the relocation of the Organics Processing Plant in Bromley.

    Continue to advocate for a timely and sustainable solution to the Waste Water Treatment Plant repair and rebuild.

    Support timely and sustainable repairs to local infrastructure.
