Waitomo District Council

Waitomo Rural Ward
The Waitomo District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of six councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Waitomo Rural ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitomo District Council election.

  • Important infrastructure.

    Local businesses.

    Youth employment.

  • Support local farmers to help find solutions to increasingly unreasonable costs due to national and local government policies and plans.

Support local tourism initiatives, such as the Waitomo Caves, and help find funding for new proposed tourism and creative arts initiatives.

Encourage youth initiatives towards fostering employment options.

  • Listen to, understand and support what our existing local businesses need from council in order to thrive in line with the council's vision.

Investigate how we can attract more thriving businesses to the region to help our economy and provide more employment options.

Investigate the feasibility of developing a business hub or centre of expertise (like Hamilton's Innovation Park) within the region.

  • Youth employment is of vital interest to me. We are going to need some help from the national government, not just funding but policy help.

Decide what infrastructure will be committed to through consultation.

Hear which direction residents would like to go in concerning tourism.
