Wellington City Council

Motukairangi/Eastern General Ward
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Three councillors will be elected from the Motukairangi/Eastern ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wellington City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I've been on Council for three terms – the last term as deputy mayor. I'm proud to have led on the roll-out of new cycleways and walkways and to have worked with regional council colleagues on improvements to the bus network. I've represented the city on the governance group of Let's Get Wellington Moving. Transport, infrastructure and good urban design is my passion. We're at an exciting time and I want to continue this work on behalf of residents.

About me

I have an engineering degree and a Masters in Public Health and experience in infrastructure planning, education, housing and health. I've also served as a volunteer in many capacities. I'm known as an experienced, capable councillor who listens and delivers. I came top of the ward in both the 2016 and 2019 elections. It humbles me that people have entrusted me with their vote, and I will always strive to do my best for them.

My priorities
  1. Getting a really good result from Let's Get Wellington Moving – to lower emissions and solve congestion.
  2. Infrastructure – fixing the pipes and ensuring solutions to meet climate change challenges.
  3. Looking after our people, doing all we can to see warm dry housing, good jobs and things to do.
