West Coast Regional Council

Buller Constituency
The West Coast Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of seven councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). Two councillors will be elected from the Buller constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I believe that we are privileged to live in such a wonderful part of the country and it is my wish that we continue to enjoy this. The regional council policies and direction have a significant part to play in supporting the way we live in an area that is vulnerable to environmental factors such as flooding and earthquakes. We can't stop these but we can plan to make our communities resilient.

About me

I have over 40 years experience of local authority engineering in the Buller District, and believe that I have the expertise to make a difference. I understand the funding constraints that councils face and the need to seek other forms of government assistance. I believe that I would bring a practical, pragmatic and researched perspective to the decision making process.

My priorities
  1. Finalise options to mitigate the flood risk to Westport and ensure timely decisions and construction.
  2. Use the Regional Land Transport process to advocate for the reintroduction of special purpose roads.
  3. Implement the Te Tai o Poutini Plan, taking into account the issues raised in consultation.
