Mayor of Hamilton

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hamilton City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am running for mayor of Hamilton to deliver an exceptional quality of life, ensuring our city remains vibrant and inclusive for all residents. I am driven by concerns over wasteful spending, like $249 million on consultants and the $50 million to $100 million CCO water meter plan. I have eight years as a councillor in Johannesburg, which gives me the experience that fuels my commitment to fiscal discipline and approachable leadership, fostering community wellbeing while preserving Hamilton's small-town character without divisive policies.

About me

I will excel as Hamilton's mayor, leveraging my Johannesburg City Council experience, leadership as chief whip and founder of two South African political parties, and corporate expertise in FMCG and pharmaceuticals. As Hamilton Grey Power chairman and Zone 3 director, I champion seniors and all Kiwis, rejecting divisive preferences. I am studying law in Waikato and have a health background, ensuring transparent, disciplined governance, eliminating wasteful spending to enhance livability for our united community.

My priorities
  1. Enforce a 10% budget cut, saving $25.6 million to curb consultant waste and fund roads.
  2. Cap rates at 4.3%, cutting 15.5% hikes to ensure affordability.
  3. Allocate $25.6 million to cut $1.26 billion debt, boosting transparency.
