Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board

Burwood Subdivision
The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including Two members from your area, and three members from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Continue to upgrade the water treatment plants.

    Make sure that the gardens and green spaces are kept up to scratch.

    Repair gutters, footpaths and infrastructure as quickly as possible.

  • Enhance animal control and street-cleaning services to keep neighbourhoods safe, healthy and welcoming for everyone.

    Ensure safe drinking water and effective wastewater and sewerage systems that meet the needs of growing communities and oppose water bottling.

    Improve rubbish and recycling services by making it easier for households and businesses to divert waste from landfill.

  • Continue to work with the parks and red zone teams to keep green spaces looking tidy and usable for members of the community.

    Continue work to replace damaged water infrastructure and combine it with other renewals.

  • Continue to upgrade the water treatment plants.
