Rodney Local Board

Kumeū Subdivision
The Rodney Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

  • Reopen existing bush tracks for everyone. Expand nature preserves to protect catchments, wetlands and runoffs. Expand humane pest-controls.

    Monitor water quality, invite farmers to manage catchments for long-term improvements. Support volunteers joining environmental projects.

    Advocate a waste-to-energy plant for the region's rubbish. Remove fluoride from city water. Minimise toxic sprays. Remove invasive plants.

  • Improve biodiversity by funding pest management plans so community groups can access the Natural Environment Targeted Rate.

    Encourage community initiatives for environmental sustainability, eg Riverhead.

    Advocate for and support effective monitoring and enforcement of regulations.

  • Assist landowners to undertake riparian planting and fencing to improve water quality in our harbours and waterways.

    Support community groups to undertake local pest and weed control.

    Support the Community Recycling Centres to reduce waste going to landfill.

  • Improve biodiversity by funding pest management plans so community groups can access the Natural Environment Targeted Rate.

    Support improved water quality in our streams and the Kaipara Harbour.

    Support pest free groups across Rodney to deliver on Pest Free 2050.

  • Empower local community groups and organisations to continue their remedial planting to protect our waterways and pest eradication.

  • Encourage the rehabilitation of local waterways. Oppose the Three Waters plan to remove local control of waterways.

    Encourage the creation of more green zones and appropriate verge tree planting in all new housing developments.

    Create an easily accessible local waste disposal collection point to reduce illegal dumping polluting bush and creeks.

  • Dredge the Kumeū River.

    Ensure the council controlled organisations meet their obligations such as not letting raw sewage flow from the sewer lines into the rivers and beaches.

    Support any sensible (and practical) council initiative towards waste to energy.

  • Encourage pest control by helping individual homeowners access to good humane pest control options.

    Petition Auckland Council to increase recycling collection to weekly.
