Rodney Local Board

The Rodney Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Improve libraries, community halls and other local facilities, including the provision of staff, training, and upgrade of assets.

    Improve local access to recreation and arts facilities.

  • Look for ways to establish the Huapai Indoor Courts Facility privately.

    Investigate and find budget for a replacement skate facility and pump track at the Huapai Domain.

    Create community participation and ownership of parks and reserves by supporting volunteers to do planting, track building and maintenance.

  • Maintain public access to public spaces such as Muriwai beach.

    Ensure all council owned public facilities are maintained and safe for the communities to use.

    Stop council spending for non council events.

  • Ensure rate-payer's amenities are kept in top quality. Seek input on special needs to maintain local quality of life for young and elderly.

    Provide three community festivals annually to bring us together in a healthy, happy family-centred spirit. Support sports and culture.

    Plan for expansion of community facilities to meet future needs. Invest in land, assets and amenities to ensure ratepayer's lifestyle needs.

    Engage with youth ensuring their needs are met, and find out what they want out of their community, eg skate parks or mountain bike tracks.

    Evaluate festivals carefully for cost/benefit.

    Support sport facilities and sports fields to continue to be improved and useable in all weather and year-round.

    Support community groups to run local festivals.

  • Consider the development of a public swimming pool.

    Upgrade the facilities at community halls and encourage their use by the community for various events.

    Build more green zones – especially in high-density housing areas.

  • Support the Kumeū and Helensville Art Centres.

    Maintain and renew our local parks, playgrounds and sports grounds to ensure they meet the needs of our growing communities.

    Advocate for funding for the Huapai Indoor Sports facility under the One Local Initiative programme.

    Make roads through busy villages safer for non-vehicle users (walkers, cyclists, horse riders) by funding from the Community Safety Fund.
