Rodney Local Board

Kumeū Subdivision
The Rodney Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Hold Auckland Council to account for their responsibilities to clear rubbish from public spaces and parks and roads.

    Oppose the Three Waters which is proposed from central government. Water assets should be controlled by the local council.

  • Reject Three Waters, endorse local control of local assets. Support local solutions to water quality management. Plan infrastructure care.

    Give ratepayers value for essential rubbish and cleaning work by transparent tender, council can compete. User pays policy for waste.

    Advocate a waste to energy plant for region. Continue with present animal control and dog licensing.

  • Push for more regular rates-funded rubbish collection. We are paying urban rates and should receive urban quality service.

    Encourage the collection and use of rain water rather than forcing people to underutilise a free resource.

    Oppose the Three Waters plan to remove local control of water.

  • Support community recycling initiatives through the Helensville Community Recycling Centre.

    Involve the community in planning for the future.

    Make town centres, parks, and facilities fit for the future.

  • Push for more regular street cleaning to prevent stormwater drains getting blocked.

  • Actively and loudly oppose Three Waters.

    Oppose Three Waters stealing of assets.

    Communicate as much information as possible about every project to as many businesses and individuals as possible. Transparency.

  • Subsidise the deliver of drinking water to rural homes during drought.

    Investigate broadening council rubbish collection to areas not currently serviced with Rodney.

  • Encourage community initiatives for environmental sustainability.

    Advocate for the regular maintenance of road drains and clearing of rivers.

    Continue to promote healthy waterways across Rodney through monitoring water quality of streams with strategic plans for reducing sediment.
