The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including Two members from your area, and three members from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Continue to oppose the granting of new bottle store licences in Linwood ward as there are already too many.

    Continue to oppose the reduction of library and pool hours or reduction of service levels so that every resident has access to them.

    Support the eventual rebuilding of a Linwood Library and service centre as a multi-use community hub as part of the regeneration of Linwood.

  • Act as a strong advocate for local libraries, parks and pools in all council debates.

    Ensure a fair and transparent process for local groups applying for community funding.

    Prioritise local funding for the maintenance and upgrade of neighbourhood parks.
