The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including Two members from your area, and three members from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Continue to advocate for more funding to repair streets and footpaths that have been damaged since the earthquakes.

    Continue to advocate to Environment Canterbury for improved bus services in the Waitai board area.

    Work with Christchurch City Council, other elected members and residents to deliver the $5 million for roads in Bromley that was secured on budget.

  • Continue to advocate for the East to be included fully in the transport network and development of mass rapid transit and connector routes.

    Continue to support the roll-out of better bus shelters throughout the ward and board area, as well as more turn-up-and-go route uplifts.

    Prioritise the five million dollar Bromley roads improvement plan implementation obtained, working with local residents and community organisations.

  • Advocate for the council to explore future transport options that will benefit the ward.

    Champion the repair of earthquake-damaged roads and footpaths throughout the community.
