Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Advocate for better servicing of public centres, parks and other public areas in regard to street cleaning, rubbish and garden maintenance.
Work to remove chlorine from drinking water and prevent water bottling and sale of water services or infrastructure by Christchurch City Council.
Work with Christchurch City Council to find solutions for fly tipping in Eastern suburbs.
Advocate for the council to prioritise fixing leaking water pipes in neighbourhoods.
Maintain a strong overview of water and waste services to ensure they meet local needs.
Work to improve communication so residents can get basic service issues sorted faster.
Continue to advocate for suburban village centres to have increased service levels for maintenance, street cleaning and rubbish removal.
Continue to support the upgrade and repair of the wastewater treatment plant as well as reduction of overflows into the rivers.
Support the progressive removal of chlorine from drinking water and keep water services in direct council ownership, opposing water bottling.
