Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board

The Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Queenstown-Lakes District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

    Support the development of public transport options in the Upper Clutha and encourage uptake of solar power generation and electrification.

  • Advocate strongly for the expansion of Wastebusters.

    Support the implementation of QLDC's climate and biodiversity plan.

    Support walking and biking as alternative means of urban transport.

  • Fully support the 2025–2028 council's climate and biodiversity plan, as since its implementation we have made great progress on implementing.

    Fully support the Te Ao Māori principles being at the forefront to adapt to climate change for the best of Te Taiao (natural environment).

    Fully support investigating the possibility for local renewable energy transformation, including electric, wind and solar, and educate above.
