Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board

The Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Queenstown-Lakes District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Work towards spaces for all, shared spaces where pedestrians feel safe, strollers glide, wheelchairs easily access and scooters and skaters can use too.

    Support central government providing public transport systems for the region and explore alternatives to road such as gondola systems.

    Recognise the airport as an asset, let the community vision drive the airport but explore expansion, alternative fuel options, education and revenue.

  • Support development of public transport initiatives and investigation of park and ride options for events in town.

    Support improvements to the roading network with support from NZTA to address bottlenecks and poor intersection design.

    Support safe active transport infrastructure for those who wish to use it, thereby reducing traffic and increasing available car parks.

  • Advocate for safe traffic speeds on our streets and roads.

    Ensure a strong community voice in the Wānaka Airport future review.
