Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board

The Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Queenstown-Lakes District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Act as a guardian for Lake Wānaka and Lake Hāwea.

    Strongly oppose the application by Contact Energy to lower Lake Hāwea levels.

    Support local environmental groups including WAI Wānaka, WAO and Wastebusters.

  • Ensure highest protection to waterways, design for more permeable infrastructure and assist landowners to diversify into more wetlands.

    Fully support the council's biodiversity plan for the removal of wilding pine species and replanting with indigenous forest.

    Fully support extending and investing in the wastebusters model and look at ways of other financial returns from this model.

  • Encourage council to ensure our water and sewerage system meets the required standards and growth, and support community groups such as Wai Wanaka.

    Support council biodiversity policy and plant and pest control on public land, and support Predator Free Wanaka and wilding pine groups’ work.

    Support Wanaka Wastebusters and council efforts to recycle, reuse and divert material from landfill.
