Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board

The Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Queenstown-Lakes District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Encourage council to find ways to resolve the filter clogging issue with the Wanaka water supply and ensure supply keeps up with growth.

    Support the timely development of sewerage treatment at Project Pure to ensure that we meet growth challenges and environmental standards.

    Support Wanaka Wastebusters and council efforts to recycle, reuse and divert material from landfill and develop Ballantyne Road site.

  • Support the waste minimisation policy of council, zero waste, support investment into the wastebusters model and market the model to others.

    Require every new house built to include rainwater storage for grey water, prevent stormwater runoff into waterways and reduce non-permeable surfaces.

    Introduce registration of cats, de-sex all domestic cats unless a registered breeder, prevent cats from roaming at night and limit to a maximum of two cats.
