Albert-Eden Local Board

The Albert-Eden Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Balance growth with ample green space provision. Intensification means we need to have places for people to play, exercise and be in nature.

    Partner with and invest in Auckland's community and regional sports organisations and facilities to drive sport in Auckland from the grassroots up.

    Ensure we have diverse range of successful events for communities to attend. Building strong connections with neighbours increases safety.

  • Supporting wider aspects of culture that honour our history across Māori and ethnic communities.

    Creating accountability for making sure appropriate communities are consulted across the local board decision-making process.

    Utilise citizen assemblies for equitable engagement across communities that utilise public facilities.

  • Fund diverse cultural events in our communities.

    Improve our facilities for a strong visitor economy, like the Zoo and the Art Gallery, and supporting events there.

    Improve access to and affordability of recreation and cultural activities for children without existing programs.

  • Protect existing public facilities like sporting facilities, parks, pools, museums, libraries and community halls.

    Protect the mountains in our neighbourhood and the trees on them.

    Ensure sporting facilities are top quality at all times and well organised and run.

  • Strengthen our community by encouraging locals working together in community initiatives like community gardens, markets etc.

    Resist any policies to segregate or divide our people. I am disgusted the council used pools etc as a weapon against the vax free.

    Make it easy to have your say in how you want to be governed and be listened to. Governance should be bottom up and not centrally controlled.

  • Fund initiatives that harness engagement from ALL members of the community, ie disabilities, multicultural, financially accessibility.
