Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Support community recycling centres and advocate for new ones to be developed.

Ensure that service provision increases with population growth as a result of planned intensification.

Support initiatives to decrease waste at point of creation as an alternative to at the point of use.

  • Oppose the Three Waters theft. These are city assets that should remain in the citizens hands.

Fight for the removal of fluoridation in our drinking water supplies, as this is a well known poison, yet they are still doing it.

Increase community policing and bring them back into the city. We need people to be and feel safe going out.

  • Support current curb-side collection (research showed this as most effective way to reduce waste). Support food scarps collection service.

Oppose the forced amalgamation of Auckland's water resources planned under the Three Waters approach.

Prioritise investment into Auckland's water storage and incentivise domestic tank water storage to ensure reliable safe water supply.

  • Promote better street cleaning and street lighting to make our neighbourhoods clean and safe at all times.

Better dog control (especially around dangerous breeds, number of dogs per household etc).

Create better/cheaper access for inorganic rubbish disposal.

  • Support segregation of stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.

Support the importance of greenspaces in urban areas as stormwater soakage.

Enhance our social programs across our aging, rainbow, disabled, youth and ethnic populations.

  • Support council's food-scraps collection for residential homes as an added measure to a comprehensive waste management plan.

Infrastructural expansion to support intensified housing developments, ie parking, amenities, services.

Prompt and available street cleaning in areas close to big events, ie Eden Park.
