Levin General Ward
The Horowhenua District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Levin ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Continue focus on economic development to attract commercial investment as well as visitors via local festivals/events into our rohe.

    Introduce a mandatory Living Wage requirement to be paid to all employees for all council procurement contracts.

  • Further diversify local industry to take advantage of our fabulous geographic position.

    Further diversify local industry to provide wide-ranging employment for local youth.

    Continuous upgrading and expansion of infrastructure must be a priority.

  • Develop incentives to encourage and support more businesses and organisations in Horowhenua to pay at least a Living Wage to all employees.

    Strengthen digital infrastructure and spaces such as co-working hubs to support remote working and relocation of businesses to our region.

    Advocate for the expansion of Horowhenua Health centre to ensure availability of 24/7 emergency services in the Horowhenua.
