The Horowhenua District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Levin ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support the current council's community wellbeing strategy, including the advocacy of strengthening community services in our district.

    Investigate the development of a multipurpose events centre and a performance arts facility.

    Continue to fund events that celebrate our diverse culture and the arts in our community.

  • Develop plans to enable free or low cost recreation opportunities in all weather, especially for children and young people.

    Allocate funding to support more local events and festivals as opportunities to bring the community together and celebrate our region.

    Ensure regular maintenance of council-owned sports grounds to maintain the facilities and reduce injuries.

  • Ensure that all public facilities remain relevant, this may entail the repurposing of some existing sites.

    Continue ongoing monitoring of liquor licensing to ensure control of this hazardous industry.

    Maintain and advance sporting facilities in line with demand, be prepared to reconfigure facilities to meet changing demand.
