Why I'm standing

I am running because I care about the people, landscapes and biodiversity of the Bay of Plenty. My primary concerns and expertise are in the marine and coastal area where mismanagement by central and local government has resulted in overfishing, threatened biodiversity, and conflict between managers and stakeholders over the way we tackle these issues. I want to work inclusively with the people of the Bay to restore and enhance the mana of our ocean.

About me

As a marine biologist, fisherman and surfer I've seen the worst of what poor decision-making can do for the environment, as well as the amazing ability of nature to recover when supported by sound management. The Regional Council has a key role to play in the ocean and in managing biodiversity in general, but no expertise at the council table to guide that process. I will bring that desperately needed expertise.
