Why I'm standing
I had never considered running for council before, but recently have become aware of areas in which I feel the rights of ordinary New Zealanders are being sacrificed for large vested interests. Among these are out-of-control spending, too much power given to unelected bureaucrats, wastage and the erosion of traditional kiwi values. I recognise that a few individuals can do little, but when they team up with others who feel similarly their voices can become powerful.
About me
I spent my first eighteen years in Auckland and then many years overseas. I believe this gives me a good perspective of how Auckland can be inspired by other international cities while keeping its own personality and moving with the times. I am a poet and, while this may not help in any practical sense, the way I see the world through poetry opens me up seeing things others may miss.
My priorities
- Making Auckland a great place to live for ordinary kiwis and not just the rich and powerful.
- Identifying tendencies whereby our special character is being destroyed.
- Enhancing Auckland's beauty and "liveability" making it again the best place in the world to live.
