Mayor of Auckland

The Auckland Mayor leads the governing body of Auckland Council. The mayor’s job is to promote a vision for Auckland and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm passionate about democracy. Here now we have government eroding local body institutions and the democratic principles they are founded on, rushing disastrous housing law seriously affecting Aucklanders, with no mandate from the people. Similarly Three Waters, the nationalisation of council assets to be handed to undemocratic bodies further gutting councils function. More command and control. On top of that Council and Council-controlled Organisations paying lip-service to the consultation process. Now is the time to stand up.

About me

From Hawkes Bay, moved with family to Auckland in 1997 into a lovely sun-filled bungalow in Narrow Neck and never left. For 29 years I worked in the food industry specialising in logistics management, had small business experience, through part ownership of two Auckland stores. 2014 I took an entirely new direction and now work as a builder. From nothing I achieved financial security on a single income through good spending habits and direct investment.

My priorities
  1. Contain medium-density development inside existing Unitary Plan zones using every means possible.
  2. Ensure infrastructure decisions have an inclusive, sound financial, and sustainable base.
  3. Reform consultation process so that ratepayer-derived solutions drive the process from the start.
