Mayor of Auckland

The Auckland Mayor leads the governing body of Auckland Council. The mayor’s job is to promote a vision for Auckland and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

[Editor's note: this candidate has withdrawn from the race, but will still be shown on voting papers.] Auckland needs a mayor with the aspiration and drive to get things done. People I meet across our region want council to listen to their views, to be accountable and to spend every dollar wisely so they see value in their communities. They want to get around easily, to feel safe, and to be housed, with the infrastructure and green space that must go with it. Addressing these needs is the foundation of my campaign.

About me

I care about people and listen to different perspectives. Since completing a degree in economics, I've had a diverse career spanning the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, holding governance, chief executive and other senior leadership roles. I have a constructive style of leadership with a strong focus on results. This is important because as mayor, you need to work well with others to get things done, including the government of the day.

My priorities
  1. Balance transport spending to better reflect Aucklanders' travels needs rather than a single megaproject.
  2. No tolerance approach to crime and stronger push for fair share of resources from central government.
  3. Deliver better value for money by cutting waste and delivering the right services within budget.
