Mayor of Auckland

The Auckland Mayor leads the governing body of Auckland Council. The mayor’s job is to promote a vision for Auckland and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm proud to be an Aucklander for the last 50 years. It is a great city and can lead the world in what it takes to commute, be clean, have low crime, be affordable, decarbonise and to innovate. I stand for equity, meaning fairness and having no avoidable differences arising from poor governance, corruption or cultural exclusion. I will do more with less, and continue climate action and progress with greater value and less cost.

About me

I have the mix of skills to be an excellent Mayor of a world-class city. I am a talented listener for good ideas, and a fast learner who understands people, law, governance, finance, construction, health, sport and business. I have experience in creating and implementing strategy and empowering teams to get results. I have created four small businesses and worked with larger ones. I am an independent candidate taking the best ideas from each party.

My priorities
  1. Act decisively on the climate emergency to decarbonise and ensure sufficiency of water and power.
  2. Manage income and expenditure wisely and reassess contracts for price, outcomes and accountability.
  3. Decongest traffic for productivity and low stress – cheap public transport, biking, flexible work.
