Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the six councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I want to ensure a strong planet-people-economy (in that order) voice at the council table. I am concerned we have anti-democratic forces in play, and I want to ensure that councillors behave for the benefit of all city residents. Using the best available evidence, council should prepare the city for the likely chaotic future to come, which means doing our absolute utmost to get the best possible outcomes for people and planet.

About me

I'm a long time union member, local committees member and regularly volunteer for community activities. My family and I have lived in Naenae Lower Hutt since 2011. I believe people and their interests can only really thrive when the natural world around them is thriving. Much of my unstructured volunteer work is in cleaning up rubbish left either by other people or by the inadequacy of our waste management systems.

My priorities
  1. Preparing the council and city for an urgent step change reduction in managing our GHG emissions.
  2. The decarbonisation of the city's transport infrastructure.
  3. Establish a network of resilient community gardens in suburbs.
