Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the six councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have lived in Lower Hutt my entire life and the intensification plans will fundamentally change the city. This can be positive or negative. My primary reason for running for council is to ensure the change is positive.

About me

I am a walking embodiment of flexible labour markets: I have been an academic, I have worked at senior levels as a public servant, and I operate my own surface preparation business. I am therefore used to working successfully with lots of different types of people at different levels with different skills. I like to think I am getting better at listening and seeking understanding. I also see myself as a lateral thinker.

My priorities
  1. Restoring city finances.
  2. Ensuring residential intensification is done well and creates communities rather than ghettos.
  3. Focusing on the connection between people and place and belonging.
