Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the six councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I care about the future of Lower Hutt and I want to ensure that there are a diverse range of perspectives at the council table. In these uncertain times, it is important that council reflects the cultural diversity, skills and varied life experiences of our communities.

About me

I will add value and bring experience, integrity and heart to the council table. As a community board chair, I know how to navigate local government to achieve positive outcomes. I'm passionate about community governance and currently serve on the Home of Compassion Board of Directors, the Manaaki Ability Trust Board and the Wainuiomata Community Board. I'm an operatically trained tenor, a white ribbon ambassador and district commander for the Māori wardens.

My priorities
  1. Infrastructure. Work to find the $1.27 Billion needed to bring our water network up to standard.
  2. Youth Leadership Forum. An opportunity for youth to tell us about their aspirations.
  3. Resilience Plan. A comprehensive resilience plan that includes flood protection and land slips.
