Hutt City Council

Hutt City At Large
The Hutt City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the six councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hutt City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I love living, working and raising my family in the Hutt Valley. I am deeply concerned about the current council going off the rails pushing central government agendas instead of serving the interest of the constituents that elected them. The fact that we have had so many councillors quit during the last triennium indicates a serious problem. I am by nature a problem solver and believe I can return council to serving its constituents.

About me

I am a self-employed IT consultant and am running as an independent candidate. I do not represent any specific political party, group or agenda. I have lived and worked in the Hutt Valley for over 20 years providing IT services mostly to business and residential customers in the Wellington region. I am a Christian, an avid DIYer, and always looking for ways to do better.

My priorities
  1. Reduce the rates burden particularly given the current economically difficult times.
  2. Retaining control over our utilities and resisting central government interference in council business.
  3. Focus on fixing what's broken and revise the long term plan to address growth and maintenance.
