Dunedin City Council

The Dunedin City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Dunedin City Council election.

Why I'm standing

Time and time again, ratepayers have been let down with higher rates, more bureaucracy and wasteful projects while core services are neglected. It is time to give the council a wake-up call and get back to basics, safe streets, working infrastructure and value for money.

About me

I am a former Royal New Zealand Navy serviceman with 22 years of active military experience and a local business leader. After two decades in the Navy, I joined a communications technology company, working his way to joint owner. Married with two adult children, I bring discipline, leadership and real-world experience to the table. I am standing to bring accountability, efficiency and practical thinking back to Dunedin's local government.

My priorities
  1. Break the cycle of wasting money by sticking to and concentrating on our core services.
  2. Real local democracy by stopping closed door decisions and letting all know who votes for what.
  3. Stand against co-governance as it affords no requirements for public-facing transparency.
